IoTphile. Sensing the world of IoT

IoTphile. Sensing the world of IoT

In a world full of objects connected to Internet, the sensor is the first point of interaction between the objects and their environment.

Ranging from applications for smart-homes, autonomous driving, wearables, etc. to smart-farming, all use a network of sensor nodes capable of translating physical variables (temperature, light, etc.) into electrical signals that are processed and transmitted to a cloud that shares the information.

i3 – 1ST WORKSHOP & MASTERCLASS

i3 – 1ST WORKSHOP & MASTERCLASS

The i3 (Impact Innovate Invest) project, funded by the European Commission organises its first workshop of information exchange between ICT-19 projects (Technologies for creative industries, social media and convergence framework) that will be held in Brussels (iMinds-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel Pleinlaan 9 – 2nd floor) on 7th July 2016.

The workshop will introduce you to the Living Lab approach which can be used to allow your business ideas and new technologies to be co-designed and tested with users and a wider stakeholder community. In addition, the workshop will introduce you to our socio-economic impact maximization tools that are designed to help you to identify a value proposition of your (and other research-driven) interest in the Social Media Convergence domain, and thus help you to prepare the path from research or development to innovation and finally market deployment.

The schedule and application to the workshop is at the following link, https://www.f6s.com/1sti3workshopandmasterclass  please note that tickets are given on a first come first served basis.

IoTphile. Node-RED

IoTphile. Node-RED

In the Internet of Things. solutions often require putting together hardware devices, APIs and online services in new and interesting ways.

The time spent on writing the boilerplate code to talk to these different systems, such as accessing a Serial port or completing an OAuth flow against Twitter, is not time spent creating the real value of the solution.

We need tools that make it easier for developers at all levels to bring together the different streams of events, both physical and digital, that make up the Internet of Things.

In this video we present Node-Red, an open source visual tool for wiring the Internet of Things, that takes care of the technicalities and lets you concentrate on the logic of your workflow.

IoTphile. FIWARE. A european initiative for the future Internet II

This tutorial extends the knowledge acquired in the video “(I) FI-WARE: A European initiative for the Future Internet“. As a starting point, we assume that an instance of Orion Context Brokerhas been deployed in FILAB.

The Orion Context Broker (hereinafter broker) interacts with context producer applications (which provide sensor information) and with context consumer applications (which process that information, e.g. to show it in a graphical user interface). We will play the roles of both kinds of applications in this tutorial.

IoTphile. Precision Agriculture, a new way of looking at the countryside

Every day all of us consume agricultural produce, but we never stop to think where it is grown, how much water has been used to grow it, and the number and type of nutrients it needs to grow. The world of The Internet of Things is already present in agriculture and can give the answers to these questions. Sensors connected to the Internet can now be installed in the ground and on the plants themselves. What features should these devices (nodes) have to be used in precision agriculture?
